Will Mayor Jones steal your land next?

It's a real shame, what Mayor Sam Jones is trying to do to the people of Mobile. The only greater shame is that the people of Mobile are sitting idle and letting him get away with his shenanigans.
First, Sam twisted and perverted voting lines in west Mobile in order to "grab" land via annexation. He practically purchased votes on the annexation from the Mobile Terrace community and others by giving the people free smoke detectors and making promises of paved and repaired roadways.
Sortly after his annexation scheme worked, Sam moved the fire department from the area that voted against him and placed it out near the Mobile Regional Airport. Why, you might ask. All I can guess in this is that (a) it was a means of punishing those who voted against the annexation while (b) attempting to purchase the upcoming annexation of Mobile Regional Airport into the City of Mobile. If that is the case, then it worked like a charm - the Mobile Regional Airport annexed into the City of Mobile shortly after Sam Jones announced that he was moving the fire department out there from Hitt Road.
It wasn't too long after that when the news broke that the City of Mobile was going to get into the business of taking over people's property when they become late on their payments of property taxes. That's right! The City of Mobile is now in the business of grabbing land from those who are too poverty-stricken to pay their property tax bills.
The news has now come about that Sam Jones is trying to use the power of eminent domain to literally STEAL several parcels of land in the Mobile terrace area so that he can build a park. He had promised the people of Mobile Terrace a park in exchange for their votes in the annexation scheme that he ran and won, and now he is making good on that promise. The only problem is that in order to make good on his promise of a park, Mayor Sam Jones is going to steal property from the very people he pretended to be trying to help earlier.
A PARK! How does that benefit the good of the people? How does it increase tax revenues for the city, or improve the common welfare of the community? All it is going to do is produce a tax burden on the city in way of maintenance and insurance expenses, provide a marketplace for the distribution of illegal norcotics, and present itself as a hunting grounds for paedophiles on the prowl for underpriviledged children that they can take advantage of.
What a shame, indeed. And, to top it all off, the newspaper reported that Sam Jones intends to make more use of the power of eminent domain to steal other people's properties as well throughout his term in office.
Looking back at all of this, I see only one thing about our mayor, Sam Jones. In my opinion (and we're all legally protected in voicing our opinions), he's as crooked as any snake in the grass could ever be. He's a land-grabber, and he's not ashamed to steal the lands of the poor and needy in order to make a name for himself.
Once again in my opinion, I say that it is way past time that the people of the City of Mobile speak up and speak out against this crooked man we've mistakenly elected into office, to tell that we have had enough, and to remove him from the office of The Mayor. If we don't act soon, who knows what is going to happen next. For all you know, Sammy-boy might have his eye on the parcel of property you live on. |

The Pride Parade just passed this way about 20 minutes ago. I thought I would share a few photos of gay and straight members of our community just having a really good time with each other.
Living Our Faith... Out Loud!
If they can get the Clinton and Obama camps under one tent, they can get anybody together peacefully.
Ring around the manhole! (pardon the pun)
Lesbian parents and the children they love.
Two of Mobile's finest show a little brotherly love at Pride 2008.
Men in uniform.
Great entertainment.
Dancing in the streets.
The Port City Men's Chorus will be raffling off a beverage tub. A bottle of Pinot Noire was donated by yours truely (Busaba's Thai Cuisine), just to help them with their event.
Turnout in Bienville Square was quite good, despite the uncooperative weather.
The Queen doth come.
B-Bob's Bee Boys. |

Okay boys and girls. Pride Week has begun in downtown Mobile. You know what that means - get downtown this weekend and show your support for diversity within our lives and the lives of our friends. That's right. Come on down, even if you aren't gay, transgendered, or otherwise aroused by persons of the same gender as yourself.
You see, Pride Week really isn't for the gays in our community. It was started for those of us who are not gay, so that we can get a better understanding of our gay companions in life, and so we can finally begin to accept them into our lives.
This weekend promises some really exciting entertainment. For those of you who have never hung around gays before, they literally thrive on exciting entertainment!

Roadblocks A Pain In The Ass
|
| By : Roy_Pope on 02 Apr 2008 at 05:15:58 pm

|
|
I remember watching futuristic movies as a kid where people had to produce ID every time they moved around in their city. If I am correct, 'Escape From New York' was one such movie. Anyhow, I recall thinking to myself how very weird that was, and that it could never really happen.
It's happening!
On my way home from work one Saturday night a few months ago, I wound up stuck in traffic backed up by a pesky roadblock. I had been driving for 15 minutes, or so, already in a bit of a hurry to get home. Since having my lower anterior resection (that's where the doctors rejoin two peices of colon after removing the middle peice) from my cancer surgery, the need to go to the restroom is accompanied at first by a sense of urgency followed by horrific abdominal pains if the urgency isn't answered immediately. And so, being stuck at a roadblock for another 20 minutes really caused me to feel some serious pains and cramping.
I guess that the City of Mobile just doesn't realize the pains that they put some people through when they set up roadblock. By the time I got to the officer at the roadblock and handed him my identification, I was in so much pain that I could hardly speak when the officer asked what was wrong with me. And, what made it even more difficult was knowing that the roadblock was set up just outside the subdivision in which I live, and the restroom was only a three minute drive from there.
Well, a blockage formed in what's left of my intestines from "holding it" for so long in the roadblock. By the time I got home, I could hardly walk to get out of my van. I finally had to go into the hospital where I stayed for five days while the blockage was cleared.
Yes, I agree that the roadblocks have been somewhat successful in getting drunk drivers off the road, catching criminals and removing illegal drugs and weapons from the streets. Still, for those of us who are innocent of such activities, forcing us to endure an unnecessary roadblock is indeed a violation of our civil rights to travel unimpeded upon the very roads that our tax dollars pay for. |
